viva la vinyl!
We love playing records and recently had our turntable fixed up after being out of commission for awhile. Well actually...it's already broken again but hopefully it's a quick fix. So anyway...we were totally inspired to make a fun design showing our love for vinyl! I made adult shirts with black and yellow ink on brown, a few onesies, and a small batch of bibs. These items will be added to my etsy shop this week.

new vintage shop!
So Chad and I have been talking about opening a Vintage & Supply shop on etsy for ages. We love hunting for fun vintage finds and have lots and lots of stuff to destash so it just makes sense. The new shop is called REVISITED and deciding the name was probably what took us this long to open the shop. The only other name we could both agree on was COUNT DRUNKULA which makes no sense but makes us laugh. Luckily revisited was available.
So far I've just added some vintage card sets and coasters to the new shop but there will be lots more to come including fun vintage housewares, vintage art pieces, and collage paper packs.
If you dig vintage check it out!

Key Lime Pie
I thought that I couldn't make a good pie and then I found this simple recipe on allrecipes.com that looked too good (too easy) to be true. Here's is my slightly altered version of the recipe:
_______
(1) 9" graham cracker crust
(2) 14 oz. cans of sweetened condensed milk
3/4 cup key lime juice
1/2 cup sour cream
combine sour cream, lime juice and condensed milk and stir until well blended (I just whipped it up in my mixer for a minute)
pour mixture into crust and bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 8-10 minutes or until tiny pinhole bubbles start to form. do not let it brown!
_______
I had lots of help from Lars with the lime juice. We had a totally fun time making this pie for Chad's birthday!! It turned out delicious. I am totally inspired to try baking more pies now!

my brother knows the answer to everything all of the time...
I'm feeling grateful for my baby brother tonight, can you tell? I have to say that I wish some of those good genes would have come my way. I am scattered and impatient - he is organized and mellow...and thank goodness somebody is!!
Tonight I was having a mini-meltdown trying to figure something out in photoshop. I finally called my brother who knows the answer to everything and he quickly helped me through it. He is truly a life saver. I think I will be baking something delicious to send his way tomorrow!
In other news, we had our record player fixed and will be getting it back tomorrow. Yay! I have been missing our dinner time dance parties and plan to kick tomorrow night off with some sweet music. The guy who fixed is said that it sounds GREAT. Now that I think about it...I bet my brother could have fixed that, too...

Chad made an awesome drawing of Elvis last week and I'm in love with it. He actually already sold the original. We decided to print a couple of copies of the colorized version to make into mirrors. I LOVE my mirror. Something about this drawing just makes me swoon. If you're an Elvis fan you can find this mirror HERE in Chad's shop.

birthday fun
hello kitty cupcakes
Originally uploaded by space oddities
My baby girl is TWO today! She had a blast at her party yesterday so much that she didn't nap the entire day. Instead of a cake I made these fun hello kitty inspired cupcakes (with lots of help from the kids!) and they were a big hit. I can't take credit for the creative use of candies to make the kitty face - I found this picture on flickr
for inspiration! I wanted to find sugar bows but couldn't find anyplace that would have something like that and was also open on a Sunday morning. We made it work.
Well, I'm off to lunch! We're going to ella's deli
for ice cream and a carousel ride for the big girl and her proud brother!

Here are some fun buttons I made this weekend for my friend Justyna who is a fantastic local photographer. I love her logo! The colors are so fun and this makes such a great button design. Funky Monkey Photography will be having a grand opening at their studio in Madison, Wisconsin on August 17. It looks like a super fun event. If you're in the Madison area click here

bike love, car love.
Chad and Lars are really into riding bikes lately and I wanted to make a fun button, maybe something for Lars to pin to a fall jacket. It was Chad's idea to put the hearts in the spokes. I like it! I made one with a bold blue background for Lars and made some of the pink background for my shop.
We don't have much planned for Saturday. I think I'm going to try to stay home and clean the house so we can have a few people over to celebrate Jette's birthday on Sunday. Oh! And my brother-in-law is driving our car home from Texas this weekend, yay! When I visited last month I LEFT MY CAR in his driveway thinking it would be easier to leave it there and fly in with the kids when we moved. Well as you know our move is now postponed indefinitely so we've been without the car for awhile. I miss it! But I've realized that we don't need it as much as we think.

geek-kon 2008 teaser trailer
Wednesday, August 6, 2008
Well here is a glimpse of the upcoming website. I just cropped a little piece of it in progress as a tease. It'll be awhile before it's finished and like I said before, it's hard for me not to reveal something that I'm excited about.
I'm so tired. Forget about laundry, I'm going to bed.

not telling
So what's the deal? Okay nothing THAT exciting! My brother is working on an amazing website for Space Oddities. I really really really want to show it to you in the works but I'm going to try really hard to wait until it's done. But don't be surprised if I end up adding a sneak peek in like four hours.
Well I'm going to leave you with this adorable drawing that my husband made. Isn't it sweet? Baby Crockett. He looks just like my son, Lars. I love it. I think we're going to print it on shirts.

I've been making lots of pocket mirrors and have been sifting through images for buttons and cards for geek-kon. I'm also working on a custom shirt order for a bachelorette party. Chad has been drawing a lot lately and is thinking about doing some simple Madison themed paintings this week. He actually had this idea and a certain style in mind years back and hadn't considered it in awhile. When we talked to Emily at the market this morning and she mentioned the popularity of Madison items he decided to give it a try. I hope he makes something quick so I can show it off!
Well, I've started to apply for some winter shows and have a few more I'm waiting on the applications to open up. I am going to try to fit in as many shows as I can in November and December. Unfortunately a couple of the shows/show dates I want to apply for are doubled up this year. But I should still be able to get at least 2 in for November and 2 in December. I hope! And I've been talking with another WIST team member about trying to coordinate another trunk show for the street team at Lazy Jane's this year. It was a nice little event last year and I hope we can make it happen again! I really WANT to apply for more shows that are coming up sooner but I know I won't be ready. Plus I've probably missed the deadline in most cases anyway. So...for the rest of the year it'll be all about the holiday shows!
I'm off to make more mirrors. I'll leave you with this one which is my favorite from last night's batch. The image is from an old French children's book. I seriously can't believe I cut it to pieces. It was gorgeous and perfectly aged. But also very damaged. I love this picture because it reminds me of my father who played piano from a very young age and talks about how when he was eight years old he would give the neighbor girls piano lessons. So cute. It also reminds me sitting on my daddy's lap playing piano when I was a child. Aww. So sappy, I know. :)
