Trashion Treasuries Abound!

There are seriously THREE awesome TRASHION treasuries on etsy right now! Kudos to Sweetyprize, PureKatherine and Miggipyn for putting these beauties together. I especially dig the Red themed treasury.

The Trashion street team is keeping busy gearing up for a trunk show at etsylabs in Brooklyn on July 27 and has also opened up a collaborative team shop. So much trashion, so little time! It's all happening!

jackpot!

These National Geographic magazines are from the late 1930s through late 1940s. Can you believe they were going to be trashed? Boo! I have barely started paging through them but have already found some great images, wacky stories and bizarre war propaganda. Love it!

geekery? check.

Star Trek? Got it. LOTR? Check! I love giving new life to damaged comics, thrift store sci-fi novels, any bit of awesome geekery I can get my hands on. I've recently added some fun STAR TREK pinback buttons to my etsy shop along with a Lord of the Rings inspired card and matchbox magnet - both made with text from Fellowship of the Ring. Check it out and look for lots of other superheroes and legends hanging out in my store (right HERE!)

matchboxes.

I love them. I am convinced that anything can be invitingly displayed in an itty bitty matchbox. Every new matchbox magnet I make has me feeling like I'm looking at the marquee at a movie theatre. Here are some of my latest creations - there will be many more to come!

disenchanted.

I am feeling really off lately. My good friend Jessi pointed out that it is probably because I barely sleep and eat nothing but bagels and frozen mochas from Panera. This is most likely the case, but I feel like I don't know what else to do! All I want to do is CREATE all of the time, and the way I roll that doesn't leave time to take care of much else besides the essentials: work, kids, sleep (if I have time.) It's 1:45am and I am going to have to will myself to go to bed soon since my 2 year old will most certainly be awake in four hours.

How do you you busy crafty people do it? Especially those of you with kids? I am convinced that I am going to be in this delusional sleep deprived zombie-craft-mode forEVER.

applepanda!

My friend Jessi and I have been collaborating to make fun greeting cards with removable gifts. Jessi makes the felt dudes and I work them into fun cards that coordinate so that you can take care of your card & gift giving in one. We also have cards with felt embellishments, individual felt pins and magnets, and cards that include a removable pinback button.

It's a pretty wacky deal logistically since I am in Wisconsin and Jessi is in New Mexico, but we make it work, largely by lots of obscenely long phone calls in the middle of the night, the decisiveness of our husbands when we are totally indecisve about if something works or not, and the good ol' USPS (ugh) to get one element of Applepanda to physically be with the other.

As you can see...it is a labour of love. You can visit our etsy shop HERE to see what's new. I hope you dig our stuff. We think it's pretty awesome.

New TRASHION Shop + Trunk Show Announcement!

Last week the etsy Trashion street team launched a collective shop on etsy.com which will feature items from many of the 70+ and growing street team members.

What is trashion? Trash + Fashion = Trashion. But Trashion doesn't just stop at recycled clothing and accessories. Revamped home decor and repurposed paper goods fit the bill, too - and it's all functional, fashionable, and eco-friendly.

We will have recycled art, jewelry, clothing, home decor & more for sale, plus there will be trashion-themed films, make-your-own trashion activities and refreshments. The trunk show is FREE and open to all ages, plus the first 25 people through the door will receive a complimentary trashion team gift bag! If you're in the area check it out!!

rave reviews.

I spend a lot of time on etsy.com and of course that means that I BUY a lot there, too. I'm going to share some recent and not-so-recent finds that I will never get tired of!

This amazing pepperminty Rosemary Mint Soap made by FuzzyBunny is the perfect wake-me-up bar soap. My husband and I have both used it like crazy and it's time for more. This is one you won't want to share! Fabulous!

I love my wallet. It's sturdy, fits all of my stuff and I get compliments on it everywhere I go. It's made by Tinymeat, featuring artwork by AshleyG. It is easily my very favorite etsy purchase so far this year. I plan to go back for another one of TinyMeat's artist series wallets now that he is featuring images by Menta!

An army of button and magnet sets... and a supergirl comic compact! These are some of my favorite new creations of the week!

making junk awesome.

These are the first couple of bags I finished for the etsylabs Trashion trunk show. The first was made from an old shopping bag and the second one from a 1950s map. The ribbon was repurposed - I NEVER throw away ribbon when I receive a gift and these scraps are working out perfectly! The bags will be used for swag bags for a handful of lucky early birds at the Trunk show on July 27 at the etsylabs in Brooklyn. Several trashion street team members will be making swag bags (and lots more will be filling them!) so no two bags will be alike! Do you dig?

For details on the trunk show check out the banner at the top of my blog. And if you are interested in getting involved with the trashion street team on etsy they are always welcoming new members!

Dad Rules 50s Style

Some wacky cards for your fabulous father! I cut up some old National Geographics this week and started making Father's Day cards for my show next weekend. I wish the entire magazines were just ads - they're the best!

Perfect Puppets

I can't stop looking at them so I am taking this opportunity to plug a favorite. Are these puppets not the cutest?! These sweet little laminated collage paper puppets were created by designer Yael Frankel and available in her Etsy shop here. LOVE it!

storybook Gardens = very confusing and sort of awesome.

If you enjoy random attractions with that appealing abandoned amusement park feel, Storybook Gardens in Wisconsin Dells is a must-see. I am kicking myself for forgetting my Holga!! Oh! And to answer your question, yes - that is Alice in Wonderland and yes, she is holding a severed head.

swag.

I whipped up an army of BUY INDIE pinbacks for the Summer Craftacular goody bags today!! The glitter workshop gals are putting together fabulous gift bags for the first 50 customers at the show. If you're in the Madison area don't miss out!

magnet madness

I've been busy making magnet sets galore!

Rad Dad

I wanted to make something fun for Father's Day but I kept getting hung up on the same old traditional slogans (like #1 dad.) I asked my friend Jessi (my applepanda partner in craft) if she had any ideas and she immediately said "how about Rad Dad? I would buy that." Jessi is indeed the idea woman. I love it! I made a batch of Rad Dad pins and my husband has already been wearing it proudly for the past week. I've also added these to my Etsy shop here and will have them at my next craft show. And don't think I am forgetting about Mom! Even though mother's day is over I whipped up some super awesome "Mom's the Bomb" pins that will also be available in my shop soon. Yay! Thanks for your inspiration, Jessi!
